A university in China is incorporating golf lessons into their business and economics syllabus, thereby making it a compulsory part of the course.
The dean of Xiamen University, Zhu Chongshi said a driving range would be opening at the university in the next couple of months.
Any student studying management, law, economics and software engineering will be obliged to have the subsidised lessons.
Mr Zhu said, "Golf will improve students' health, and will also teach them skills in socialisation, which will be helpful after graduation.
"The ultimate expression of a university's contribution to the public good is the training of a social elite."
China has seen the popularity of golf rise, primarily because it is used to forge guanxi or connections between businesses . The region of Shenzhen is known for having the largest complex of golf courses in the world. While in Beijing the local government prohibited the development of new golf courses because of the affect the courses were having on water supplies .
Not everyone is please with Mr Zhus vision an academic described the decision as vulgar when China was in need of basic healthcare .
