Donald Trump’s proposed £1 billion Aberdeenshire golf development is to go before the Scottish Parliament for final approval after Aberdeenshire Council performed a u-turn on their decision not to approve Mr Trump’s proposals. Following a seven-seven tie in the council’s vote over whether to approve Mr Trump’s plans, the chairman’s casting vote went against the American billionaire.
Aberdeenshire Council’s surprising move was followed by the news that the councillor who led the opposition against Mr Trump had been removed, allowing the golf development to be passed to the next and final vote. With many Scottish politicians believed to be eager to attract foreign investment to Scotland, it would be surprising if the golf resort wasn’t approved.
Following Aberdeenshire Council’s initial rejection, Mr Trump had threatened to take up an offer from the Northern Irish government to build the resort in County Antrim .
