Donald Trump has seen his plans for a £1 billion golf resort in Aberdeenshire rejected by Aberdeenshires councillors. The development had been granted outline planning approval last week, though the subsequent vote by the infrastructure committee has seen the plans rejected. Mr Trump now has the option to appeal, and the closeness of the vote suggests he may have some success. The committee were initially tied seven-seven in the vote, though the decision fell to a casting vote from the chairman, which saw Mr Trumps plans rejected.
Mr Trumps development, The Trump International Links scheme, had proposed the creation of two championship golf courses, as well as 1,500 homes. Mr Trump had claimed the homes were necessary to fund the development, though the plans have been strongly opposed in many quarters. Local residents have strongly opposed the plans, whilst several environmental groups have claimed the development would destroy a beautiful part of the country. Donald Trump, however, claims the resort would be hugely beneficial to Scotland, particularly to the Aberdeenshire and Scottish economies.
