Golf in Dubai is continuing to grow, with the number of golfers travelling to Dubai growing by the year. Its a trend that that shows no signs of stopping, with the number of courses in Dubai set to treble over the next ten years, according to the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing . This increased popularity has been aided by the growing regularity with which reputable professional golfers opt to play in tournaments such as the Dubai Desert Classic .
Ernie Els is one such golfer, though his involvement in golf in Dubai extends beyond such tournaments, with the current world number 5 having designed a course in the emirate. Designed to appeal to golfers of all levels and ages and stretching 7,452 yards in total, the Dunes course is set to open soon at Dubai Sports City, where a Butch Harmon School of Golf will be set up to encourage greater participation in the sport. The course will be just one of a number of excellent sporting facilities in Dubai Sports City, with tennis, cricket, athletics, hockey, swimming and football facilities all available. In fact, it will host the first purpose-built Manchester United Soccer School in the world, as well as the International Cricket Councils ICC global cricket academy.
