The Turkish Golf Federation has announced plans to build 100 new golf courses in a bid to encourage further expansion of their golf tourism industry. Overall, tourism grew by nearly a third in Turkey in 2007 and is sure to grow further with the implementation of world class golf facilities.
Turkeys European counterparts Spain are an example of how to maximise the golf tourism industry. With around 20 golf courses in the whole of Turkey, it is clear they have some way to go to catch up with Spain, who can offer a different golf course for every day of the year, but with a larger area on which to build and a similar climate, Turkey could well emerge as a leading country in the golf tourism industry in the coming years.
