American golfer Hunter Mahan has stirred up controversy by labelling Ryder Cup players as slaves during the tournament week. The 26 year old, who is 12th in the US points table, may have had an excellent chance of being included, with the top nine earning automatic inclusion one more than usual as Tiger Woods will miss the event through injury . Captain Paul Azinger has a further four wildcards to use, and has declared he wants players who want to be at the tournament in September. Mahan appears to have relinquished any chance he may have had with his recent comments, suggesting players do not find the event fun and that America are not bothered about winning the event.
Mahan said, From what Ive heard the whole week is extremely long...and it isnt fun. The fun is sucked right out of it. Thats the word I hear a lot. On the possibility of players boycotting the event due to it not being fun, Mahan declared Dont be surprised if it happens. Its just not a fun week like it should be. Is it an honour to play? Yes it is. But the players time is valuable. This is a business .
