Scottish business leaders have called on the government to give the go ahead to Donald Trumps £1 billion golf resort, claiming the economy is in need of the development. Trump has faced a series of difficulties in his bid to gain approval for the golf resort, with environmentalists succeeding in their attempts to at least halt the Americans progress. However, the struggling economy may play to Trumps advantage as pressure grows from businesses for the government to approve the development.
Amongst those backing Trumps proposals are the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), the Institute of Directors (IoD), the Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) and the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI). Chief Executive of the SCC, Liz Cameron, has labelled the potential development as a once in a lifetime opportunity, calling on the government to seize the opportunity the resort would present.
She said, With declining business and consumer confidence having a material effect on our economy, growth rates are becoming dangerously shallow and our economy needs every boost it can get at the moment. We are urging the Government to make the right decision and to make it swiftly.
