Legendary golfer Seve Ballesteros has been discharged from hospital following four operations on a brain tumour . The Spaniard, who only retired from competitive golf last year, has been undergoing treatment at La Paz hospital and will continue to return to the hospital as an outpatient. The 51 year old has been in intensive care for almost 2 months after he was diagnosed in October.
The hospital released a statement saying, Severiano Ballesteros has been discharged by the Neurosurgery Department and has already left the hospital. He will continue to receive treatment from the Medical Oncology and Oncological Radiotherapy departments as an outpatient.'
The five time major winner had to undergo a series of live saving operations following his initial eight hour operation on October 14th. However, having removed the tumour, Ballesteros had to be rushed into surgery 48 hours larger due to swelling on the brain. His third operation was needed to remove a hemorrhage, whilst his last operation on December 2nd drained fluid from the brain and repaired a bone defect.
Ballesteros won 87 titles during his career, including the Open in 1979, 1984 and 1988 and the Masters in 1980 and 1983, and captained Europe to Ryder Cup victory at Valderrama in 1997.
