Following the sad death of Peter Benka, Roy Case has been named as the next president of the English Golf Union . With Richard Palmer due to stand down from the post next month, Benka had been due to take over the role, though that job will now fall to 68 year old Case. With Case now set to take over next month, Norman Forrest has been nominated as president elect for 2009.
Case boasts an impressive set of credentials to preside over the amateur game, having helped develop young amateur British talent into successful professionals, including the likes of Lee Westwood, Justin Rose, Luke Donald and Nick Dougherty. Furthermore, Case helped England to two world team titles, four European crowns and eight home international victories during his time as chairman of the junior selectors.
Case takes over at an exciting time for the British amateur game, with two of Englands six man squad to play in the quadrangular tournament in Spains Costa Ballena under the age of 20, with the rest in their early twenties.
