Donald Trump has encountered yet another problem as he bids to create what he hopes will be the worlds best golf course this time in the shape of Balmedies sand dunes. Under Scottish environmental law, the dunes are protected as a site of special scientific significance, meaning they can not be in any way developed or altered.
The dunes are part of a wider debate that is raging over whether the environmentally favoured land should be allowed to be used for Trumps golf resort . Having granted outline approval to the proposals, Aberdeenshires council then decided against allowing the development to go ahead, only for the chairman who cast the decisive vote to be fired and the decision reversed. However, revelations that party officials met with senior Trump Organization representatives prior to the decision, the controversy has hit new heights.
Although locals had voiced concerns over the environmental impact of the development, the majority appear to favour the proposals, which would undoubtedly result in a massive economic boost both in Aberdeenshire and Scotland as a whole.
