Luke Donald has withdrawn from the upcoming Scottish Open in order to rest his wrist ahead of the Open Championship on July 17th. Donald damaged his wrist at the US Open at Torrey Pines on June 15th and hasnt played since, and withdrew after 14 holes of the final round, positioned joint 23rd. Donald has slipped to 39th in the Ryder Cup rankings because of his lay off.
The Scottish Open has been a successful event for Donald in recent years, having been runner up two years ago and fourth last year. However, he will be unable to test himself alongside some high ranking rivals at Loch Lomond this year, with Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Colin Montgomerie, Rocco Mediate, Adam Scott and Lee Westwood all scheduled to play at the event.
German Martin Kaymer will also be absent from the event at Loch Lomond, following the death of his mother at the weekend. Kaymer is currently ranked seventh in the Ryder Cup standings following his recent victory in Munich. South African David Frost has also decided to sit out this weeks event in preparation for Birkdale.
