Golfs world number one Tiger Woods has vowed to be in his best shape when he returns to the sport next season. The 31 year old was forced to have surgery following the US Open, which he managed to win despite experiencing discomfort in his left knee. However, Woods has revealed that the doctors are very happy at the way the operation went, and unlike the arthroscopic surgery he underwent prior to the US Open, he feels that this surgery will ensure he is in the best shape he has been in for a long time when he returns to action next season.
The operation involved taking a graft out of Woods right hamstring, which was then placed between his knee and his new anterior cruciate ligament. The surgeon also fixed some cartilage damage that was discovered, whilst Woods will need time to recover from a double stress fracture of his left tibia that was found. Since the operation, Woods has been on crutches with his leg in a brace, and will subsequently miss the Open and the Ryder Cup .
