Marriott Golf have announced they are to make 34 of their golf courses Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries by the end of 2008. The environmental standards are designed to enhance precious natural areas and wildlife habitats a concept that Marriott has subscribed to on a global scale.
The 34 golf courses Marriott plans to gain certification for are based at 25 locations across America, Canada and the Caribbean . One of Marriotts resorts, the Miami based Doral Golf Resort, will become the first ever Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in North America to host a World Golf Championships event this March.
In order to gain the award, the golf course must show a significant effort in the maintenance and management of the local environment, an awareness of the chemicals it uses and a sense of water conservation.
