Colin Montgomerie has cancelled plans to play in a tournament in South Korea, instead opting to play at next weeks Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill as he bids to gain automatic qualification for the Masters. There are more ranking points available at the Florida event, helping Monties cause as he seeks to climb into the world top 50. Currently ranked 59, Montgomery had planned to play in the European Tours first ever visit to South Korea, though has since performed a u-turn.
However, Montgomerie will face stiff competition at the Arnold Palmer invitational with the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood. Montgomerie will stay in Florida for two weeks, as he is scheduled to play in the CA Championship in Miami the week after.
