The company who developed the Trafford Centre have revealed proposals for a world class golf course to be built in Salford . Peel Holdings submitted initial proposals to develop a £100 million golf course around the Bridgewater Canal near Leigh Road, though these plans have since been revised and made more ambitious. The new plans for the 72 hole course will see a new clubhouse and practice ground built just north of the Bridgewater Canal.
Peel Holdings have stated it is their ambition for the course to host the Ryder Cup, an event which would be worth an estimated £115 million to the local economy. However, that could take a while yet given that the development hasnt even been given planning permission yet, and will be subject to a public inquiry if planning permission is granted due to its size and its location on a greenbelt.
It is not just a golf course that Peel are hoping to build, with the proposed 1,690 acre leisure park set to feature a horseracing track with a 6,000 seater grandstand, an equestrian centre, a hotel and camping facilities.
