World Number 20 Lee Westwood has called for a new universal drug testing standard. There are currently some differences between which drugs are banned on the US PGA Tour and the European Tour, with Englands Lee Westwood having to apply for a temporary use exemption as he takes the anti-asthma drug salbutamol.
Regulations for the US PGA Tour are stricter than those on the European Tour, leaving American golfers vulnerable to being caught out. Testing is set to begin on July 1st, following speculation of performance enhancing drugs use in the sport.
The first event to fall under the testing program is scheduled to be the National hosted by Tiger Woods, with European events typically beginning two weeks later.
