Golfers at Loch Lomond Golf Club were lucky to avoid injury when a boat landed on the golf course . The boat, called The Final Fling, flew into the air after colliding with rocks by the Dunbartonshire based course. The skipper of the boat, which had been sent off course by the waves of another vessel, had to abandon ship and jump into the water.
As golfers on the course ran for cover upon seeing the boat approaching, Clyde Coastguard launched an extensive search operation. A lifeboat and a military helicopter were called to the scene to assist the search, whilst all ships in the area received calls for help. The skipper of the boat was later found.
It was the first time Clyde Coastguard had needed to deal with an emergency of this nature, and certainly the first time Loch Lomond Golf Club had experienced such an occurrence. Loch Lomond is set to host the Scottish Open in July this year.
