Former golfers Nick Faldo and Bernhard Langer have refused to rule out a return as Europe’s Ryder Cup captain. Langer successfully captained the Europeans to success at Oakland Hills in 2004, and has admitted he would take the position if he was offered it. The popular former captain said, ‘It depends. I haven’t been asked and I think there are a lot of other guys who would like to be captain and have the chance. It is not what I want, it is who the committee decides and that is the right way’.
Faldo, meanwhile, was less successful, captaining Europe in this year’s Ryder Cup to a five point defeat at Valhalla golf course, prompting criticism from the media. The six time Major winner said, ‘I really enjoyed it. I loved the experience and I thought the team atmosphere was great. We all got on great and I loved that buzz. A month after I thought ‘I miss the guys.’ I hadn’t been in that situation for 11 years since my last Ryder Cup. It is such a special event and, if something happens further down the road, I will certainly think about’.
