Seve Ballesteros has made progress as he battles against a brain tumour which has required three operations in 11 days. Madrids La Paz hospital, where Ballesteros is being treated, released a statement saying that the 51 year olds health had noticeably improved. The statement read, [Seve Ballesteros] has had a favourable trend in his neurological status, but still needs to be controlled in the intensive care unit . During several minutes Ballesteros, a man who has always had an extraordinary physical strength, was removed from sedation and he responded coherently to the basic instructions which he was given.
Ballesteros was described as being in a stable condition on Saturday following his third operation which attempted to remove the remains of the tumour and ease swelling in his brain. The hospital revealed that they wouldnt be making any further statements for a week unless there are significant developments.
Ballesteros is thought of as one of golfs all time greats, having won five majors and a total of 87 titles prior to his injury prompted retirement . Amongst the Spaniards most notable victories were three British Open wins and his first of two victories at the Augusta Masters which saw him become the first European to win the event.
