Former European Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam has suggested that he would be happy to return to the role in 2010. Woosnam guided the European team to victory in 2006, and is likely to be one of the candidates for 2010 alongside the likes of Sandy Lyle. With the 2010 Ryder Cup set to be hosted in Wales at Celtic Manor, the Welshman said, If the players and committee wanted me to come back it would be nice to do it in Wales. If might be the right time to do it and it would be nice to fetch the cup back.
Whilst Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal has ruled himself out of the running for the captaincy of the 2010 event, Sandy Lyle has expressed a keen interest and has found favour amongst the likes of Colin Montgomerie, who has backed the Scot. Lyle said, I really appreciate Colins kind words. I would be delighted and honoured to take on the challenge at Celtic Manor. It means a great deal to me that a man who has been so successful in Ryder Cup competitions should endorse my candidacy as Ryder Cup captain.
