China has continued its growth as a golfing nation, with the number of golfers and golf courses on the up. China is already the second biggest golf equipment manufacturing country in the world, having recent surpassed Japan, and has seen continual growth for the past twenty four years. Having initially started as a golf equipment oriented market, China developed its focus towards golf membership, and is currently adopting a greater focus on golf tournaments .
It is not just in the manufacturing area that Chinas golfing industry is growing, however. Five years ago there would roughly two hundred golf courses in China. That figure is expected to grow to one thousand in 2008, and annual growth is forecast to continue at a rate of twenty to thirty per cent over the next few years. Similarly, China currently has over one million golf consumers, with that figure also set to grow by thirty per cent annually for the next few years.
The figures are from a new report based on information from Chinas Golf Association, the National Bureau of Statistics of China, and several other agencies. The report analyzes the overall structure of Chinas golf industry, whilst making predictions about future performance.
