British golfer Lee Westwood has announced he plans to set up a series of golf academies aimed at attracting youngsters to the sport . In a bid to encourage young people to play the sport, the 35 year old is to run nine three day golf academies at golf clubs across the country during the summer. The training camps will be open to children aged between seven and sixteen years old, who will be offered expert tuition .
Children will receive lessons in etiquette, fitness and nutrition, whilst the academies will also feature a tournament with each winner going to spend a day with Westwood at his golf course in August. The tuition camps will be held at participating clubs nationwide, including Berkshires Blue Mountain, Derbyshires Morley Hayes and Hertfordshires Chesfield Downs .
Westwood said, The game has given me so much and I want to pass on my passion for the game to as many youngsters as I can. Golf is a very easy sport to practice the wrong thing so we are going to get quality coaches at these academies and try and teach them the right way to play golf from the very start.
