American golfer Mark OMeara has likened Northern Irish youngster Rory McIlroy to Tiger Woods. The former Masters and Open champion said that the 19 year olds ball striking ability is superior to that of Woods at the same age. The praise followed McIlroys eight under par round of 64 at the Dubai Desert Classic which the youngster went on to win.
OMeara said, Ball-striking wise at 19 he's probably better than Tiger was at 19. His technique I think is better and there's no reason why he can't win quite a few tournaments and a lot of major championships . He's got it. Certainly Tiger has developed his game and swing over the years and made modifications to be able to hit the ball pin-high, but Rory is already doing that and he's 19 so he's already a step ahead.
Prior to his final tournament winning round, McIlroy said, As long as I keep getting myself into the position on Sunday all of those experiences will become valuable. Sooner or later I'll be able to win one. But it's not my main priority. My main priority is just to try and get in there in contention on the back nine on Sunday.
